SUMMARY:AMERSA Advocacy Webinar: Methadone Access Reform: Clinical\, Community\, and Lived-Experience Perspectives on MOTAA 2.0
DESCRIPTION:For more than 50 years\, people with opioid use disorder in the U.S. have been able to get methadone only through opioid treatment programs\, often with near-daily visits. The bipartisan Modernizing Opioid Treatment Access Act 2.0 (MOTAA 2.0)\, reintroduced in June 2026\, would let board-certified addiction specialists prescribe methadone for OUD and let community pharmacies dispense it. It would also let HHS approve more types of prescribers without new legislation. What would this change for patients\, and who might still be left behind? Join a pharmacist\, a physician-researcher\, a community-engaged scientist\, and an advocate with lived experience of methadone treatment for a candid conversation about the bill\, the current regulations\, and the resources and practical steps clinicians\, researchers\, and advocates can use to expand access now.
